WHY the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology - MVA named after K.I. Skryabin?

Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology – MVA named after K.I. Skryabin was founded in 1919 as Moscow Veterinary Institute. At present, it is a major agricultural Аcademy acting as the academic and methodological center with long-standing scientific traditions for Russia’s veterinary and zootechnical institution of higher education.

MVA named after K.I. Skryabin has an honored international prestige and huge experience of fruitful international cooperation with 43 universities and scientific educational centers from 29 countries allowing Academy to participate in the integration of Russian veterinary and zoothechnical education into European educational space.

From 2019 MVA named after K.I. Skryabin is the member of EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF ESTABLISHMENTS FOR VETERINARY EDUCATION (EAEVE.)

The Academy’s international activities, as before, are aimed at attracting foreign intellectual and material potential, enriching the Russian education system with the values of world culture and the experience of foreign universities, and promoting the Academy in the system of international educational space.

MVA takes an active part in the program (Academic mobility) - “the transfer of someone related to education for a certain (usually up to a year) period to another educational institution (in their country or abroad) for training, teaching or conducting research, after which the student, teacher or researcher returns to his main educational institution). Students of the Academy constantly participate in international scientific - practical conferences, symposia and seminars.

In the framework of the development of international cooperation MVA named after K.I. Skryabin continues to interact with numerous universities, research institutes and other organizations of far and near abroad: Macedonia, Bulgary, Germany, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Belarus, etc. The plans include the development of mutual contacts with educational and scientific institutions of Latin America, Algeria, Poland, etc.

Admission of foreign citizens to the Academy for training at the expense of the budget of the Russian Federation is carried out in accordance with the Procedure for admitting citizens to educational institutions of higher education:

  • within the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation in the areas of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation;
  • in accordance with the Agreements and other international treaties of the Russian Federation (in particular, citizens of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan can enter the budgetary form of training on a par with Russian citizens);
  • on the basis of the certificate of a participant in the State program to assist in the voluntary resettlement of compatriots living abroad to the Russian Federation;
  • in accordance with the Federal Law “On the state policy of the Russian Federation with respect to compatriots abroad”.
In order to assist foreign countries in the training of national specialists with higher education, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation allocates state scholarships for admission of foreign citizens and compatriots to federal state educational institutions of higher professional education. The selection of candidates recommended by the sending party for training in the Russian Federation is carried out by Rossotrudnichestvo.

There is a Preparatory Department at the Academy, where foreign citizens study the Russian language, and also prepare for training in basic courses, taking an adaptation course in chemistry and biology. Training at the Preparatory Department can last from 1 to 24 months, depending on the purpose of training and the prospects of education. Training is conducted on a paid (contract) basis.

All foreign citizens applying for study are given a place in one of the dormitories of the Academy. Their territorial location is very favorably different from many universities, since the buildings of the Academy's academic buildings are located next to the hostels.

Medical services for foreign students are provided on a paid basis under voluntary medical insurance. A medical insurance policy is required.

The Academy disposes with the excellent facilities including 8 training and laboratory buildings, clinics, Veterinary Center, vivarium, Library, 5 student residences in the 7-minute walk from the academic buildings (for budget students is 13 $ per month, for paid – 50-120 $ per month), Sport Palace.

The Academy can boast its unique museums like Anatomical, Autopsy, and K.I. Skryabin Museum of Parasitology.

The total number of professors staff is 337, including 8 academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 79 Doctors of Science and 131 PhD.

Admission to the Academy is carried out both budget and paid basis of training on full-time or part-time forms.

Many programs implemented to study the Russian language to prepare for admission to the Academy and include training in: Russian language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics.

Cost of education varies from 2000 US $ to 4500 US $ per year.

MVA named after K.I. Skryabin has many PhD programs, individual and groups internalships on many fields of Veterinary and Zootechnology.
